SĘK WINS COMFORTABLY, 'MASTER' DELIVERS
Two major fighters of Andrzej Gmitruk's O'Chikara Team didn't dissapoint last night in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski. Dariusz Sęk (12-0-1, 4 KO) defeated solid Georgian Sandro Siproshvili (24-9, 11 KO) by wide UD in the fight of the night. His colleague Mateusz Masternak (23-0, 17 KO), undefeated cruiserweight prospect, beat Arturs Kulikauskis (7-9-2, 4 KO) by TKO in the 7th.
Sęk is not heavy-handed but his very good ring generalship and tactical awareness allowed him to control the fight with ease. Its encouraging sign of young man's surprising maturity 'cause Georgian fighter was an opponent with respectable record and skills. He tried to make it an inside fight yet he couldn't threaten with anything - Sęk felt comfortable in outboxing his opponent from the outside, often landing nice variety of punches to the head and body. In the tenth round Siproshvili went down after Sęk's hook but wasn't hurt at all and fought bravely till the last bell. Scorecards were - 98:92, 97-92 and 99-90.
Masternak's opponent was never stopped before so ''Master'' tried to make a statement and succeeded - barrage of hard punches landing on tough Kulikauskis forced the referee to stop it. Masternak started patiently and gradually builded up the good pace. It was hard to believe that his opponent managed to survive till the 7th after the amount of pain brought by Masternak. This encounter was a warm-up before autumn's fight against much better opponent. Polish fighters (especially Masternak and Kołodziej) are moving up in cruiserweight rankings and championship fights can be soon possible. Krzysztof ''Diablo'' Wlodarczyk still holds WBC belt so Poles are strong in CW after Tomasz Adamek's move to heavyweight. Many opportunities will come for them after coming up fights of Huck against Garay and Jones vs Hernandez (reportedly Jones will fight Cuban in August). It's highly unlikely that cruiser's Super Six will happen this year and champions in this division will probably take on relatively lesser known names, such as ''Master''.
