SOSNOWSKI FORCED TO FIGHT IN GERMANY

Albert Sosnowski has been handed a tricky away assignment in his efforts to regain the European heavyweight title. The Brentford-based Pole’s challenge to reigning EBU champion Alexander Dimitrenko will take place on 4 December at the Sport and Congress Centre in Schwerin, Germany after promoter Universum submitted the winning purse bid.

German-based Ukrainian Dimitrenko, 30-1, claimed the vacant EBU heavyweight championship with a fifth round stoppage over Yaroslav Zavorotnyy in July. His solitary defeat came on points to the fleet-footed American Eddie Chambers in a WBO title eliminator.

Sosnowski relinquished the European title he won by decisioning Paolo Vidoz last December before he could defend against Audley Harrison in favour of accepting a short-notice offer to challenge WBC champion Vitali Klitschko in May. Unlike Harrison’s embarrassing world title effort against David Haye at the weekend, Sosnowski gave it his all against Klitschko before he ran out of steam and was eventually rescued in round ten.

Sosnowski, 46-3-1, returned to winning ways in September with a routine first-round TKO over Melton-Mowbray journeyman, Paul Butlin.
