KOŁODZIEJ RETAINS WBF BELT IN HIS HOMETOWN
After the opening three rounds of the battle for the WBF cruiserweight title between Paweł Kołodziej (26-0, 15 KO) and Parfait Amougui Amougou (8-3-1, 7 KO) it seemed that the unbeaten Pole was on the right track to an easy victory. Kołodziej was successfully avoiding the rival's hooks and countering him impressively. Amougou turned out to be unusually ambitious and strived to surprise the 25-year-old "Harnaś" to the end of the contest which took place in Krynica (Poland), the hometown of Kołodziej. However, the Pole managed to keep himself cool and knocked the Frenchman out, retaining his WBF belt.
Kołodziej was boxing very cautiously and was controlling the situation in the ring when a visible crisis reached him in the round of ten. Unexpectedly, the promising cruiser momentarily let Amougou to take the initiative. Both boxers seemed to be exhausted. The Pole managed to catch a second breath and started the final round extraordinarily motivated. When the Frenchman lost his concentration, Kołodziej dealt a powerful right cross after left jab. Amaogou was barely standing on his feet and "Harnaś" decided to take the chance to knock out the rival in front of the hometown audience. Kołodziej was bombarding his opponent with series of punches and dealt a final right cross making Amougou land on the canvas. The referee Michael Hook stopped the fight without counting.
